2018 Mazda CX-4 Review

The 2018 Mazda CX-4 is almost ready to join the competitive SUV market segment. Unveiled recently at the Beijing Motor Show, the car is already available in the Chinese market. The automaker seems determined to make a worldwide debut with the CX-4 2018-year model. It will be available for the American and the European markets. Apparently, it is based on the Mazda Koeru concept which was released at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The upcoming Mazda CX-4 is nearly the same size as CX-5 but quite bigger than CX-3, so it sits somewhere between the two models in terms of size.

2018 Mazda CX-4 – KODO Style Design

The newest 2018 Mazda CX-4 comes with a KODO style front end design featuring bigger, shield-shaped grille and sculpted engine hood. It presents a new Koeru grill frame, extending to the headlamps. This is actually a new design feature which is lacking on other Mazda car models. Moreover, the model that the automaker showcased at the Beijing Motor Show event has black chromed grille, replacing the current shiny grille. This gives the crossover a sportier outlook. However, it maintains the sporty profile with LED eye shaped headlamps and new set of fog lamps. It is anticipated that the vehicle will ride on new 21-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The new underpinning enhances the overall aerodynamic power and fuel efficiency, thanks to the lightweight aluminum body work in combination with high-strength steel.

Interior Design

The Mazda presented an impressive cabin for the current model and therefore we are suspecting minor changes when it comes to interior design. Nothing is going to change much and you should expect the same center stack with touchscreen infotainment display screen positioned above the rectangular A/C vents with the buttons and knobs below it. The 8-inch touchscreen with multimedia MZD connect is however a free-standing unit unlike that of CX-5.

The 2018 Mazda CX-4 presents hi-tech modern technological equipment such as upgraded premium air conditioning system, dual-zone automatic climate control, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, Bluetooth audio connectivity, satellite navigation system, adaptive cruise control system and others. When it comes to safety and security features, the 2018 CX-4 features pedestrian detection system, blind zones warning, lane-departure warning system, premium airbags and safety belts, premium air bags and safety belts among others.

Engine Output

The 2018 Mazda CX-4 will be packed with the same drivetrains as for the CX-5. The latter is powered by a 2.0-liter SkyActiv engine rated at 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. There is also a more powerful 2.5-liter SkyActiv unit capable of generating about 184 horsepower. Should the upcoming 2018 Mazda CX-4 go global, then another market will get 2.2-liter diesel engine that delivers 147 HP. The Mazda is yet to confirm transmission choices but we are suspecting both powertrains to be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with a standard all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration.

The new 2018 Mazda CX-4 compact crossover will hit the roads in the mid of next year. This is however subject to manufacturer’s conformation. It should go for around $21,795 in the US market, nearly the same as CX-5.
