Spotted during the company’s Amsterdam tests, the Volvo confirms the launch of its new 2018 Volvo XC60. Based on the SPS platform, the Volvo XC60 sits next to its XC90 vehicle. The Volvo plans to compete with mid-range crossovers like BMW X3 and Audi Q5 with its new range of SUVs. The XC60 initially emerged from a concept vehicle and had ever since reigned the European and US markets. Apart from a facelift, the XC60 will show a host of other changes, like powertrain and interior features.
2018 Volvo XC60 – Design Changes:
This is where the competition gets tougher when compared to models like BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC. The Volvo has not yet completely unveiled the looks of its new vehicle but that does not stop potential car enthusiast from speculating – ‘Thor’ inspired LED hammer headlamps to sit on both sides of the chrome grilles.
Inspired from XC90, the 2018 Volvo XC60 features sloping roof and oblong streamlined shape which provides better aerodynamics and further reduction of drag. Although nothing has yet been confirmed, huge 18-inch alloy wheels aid the car in rolling in style.
The Volvo confirms bringing the same configuration to its XC60 in terms of interior designing as XC90. Excess of Scandinavian influence can be found in the stylish and comfortable XC60 interior. Its leather upholstered seats with clean modified dashboard are set to impress the driver. The XC60’s interior is further distinguishable from its wooden finish and metallic door knobs which add more style to the vehicle.
Regarding infotainment, both drivers and passengers will be happy to find premium Bowers and Wilkins surround sound audio. This is connected to a larger 12.3 digital display allowing navigation and entertainment applications. The sliding operable sunroofs look peppy and add to the fun.
2018 Volvo XC60 – Powertrain Expectations:
In terms of powertrain, the Volvo has not yet confirmed the exact specifications but car enthusiasts have gone further to predict some new changes in its apart from the existing engine. Like its other models in the XC series, the Volvo also plans to launch a Plug-in hybrid version labeled T5 for the 2018 Volvo XC60.
This new model is expected to carry under its hood a 2.0 liters turbocharged inline-4 engine producing a maximum of 240 HP coupled to an 8-speed auto transmission. A fuel economy of about 30 mpg can be expected.
Additionally, the XC60 is also said to inherit the 2.0 liters turbocharged and supercharged inline-4. This would produce a decent 302 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque.
2018 Volvo XC60 – Dealership Release and Price:
Informally speaking, the 2018 Volvo XC60 is still under construction. The Volvo intends to bring these changes to this 10-year-old model and release it by the end of 2017 or 2018. The XC60 will burn holes to the tune of $42,000 and a bit higher for more modifications.
