When the Kia Niro concept was unveiled in 2013, enthusiasts of Kia cars started to wait with great anticipation for a vehicle with sophisticated exterior, interior and powertrain. According to the South Korean automobile manufacturer, the hybrid subcompact crossover SUV will be available in a few months’ time and will be labeled the Kia Niro 2017.
Kia Niro 2017 – New Dimension of Style:
The Niro exterior is inspired by the company’s KX3 concept. The outside appearance is also inspired by other models like Soul, Sportage, and Sorento. You can, therefore, expect a sporty exterior with elegant and sleek features. The company’s iconic “tiger-nose” grille alongside vertical LED headlamps, vertical vents, and modern fog lights will be available in the front end of 2017 Kia Niro. The rear end will spot one-piece taillight, a sporty tailgate and a body-colored apron featuring aluminum inserts.
The interior of Kia Niro 2017 will be a luxurious one. It will feature bucket seats with leather finish and a modern steering wheel with a myriad of controls. With a relatively long wheelbase and short overhangs, the cabin will offer ample head, leg and shoulder room.
The Kia crossover SUV will also get a large infotainment system, a colorful & informative instrument cluster, and spacious center console. The Sportage UVO3 system will find its way in the Niro. This system features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 14 telematics services. A special 7-inch capacitive touchscreen will be available to display these features and more others like Pandora and Soundhound. As for the audio system and connectivity, you can anticipate for a twin subwoofer, eight speakers, Wi-Fi and 4G LTE.
Kia Niro 2017 – Engine, Safety, and Security:
As mentioned above, the Niro will be a hybrid car. The powertrain system will feature a 1.6-liter I4 engine, a 32-KW electric engine, and a 1.6-KW lithium-polymer battery pack. The engine alone will generate 106 hp and 110 lb-ft. When combined with the electric system, the total power and torque output will be 146 hp and 195 lb-ft respectively.
The powertrain will accelerate the car from 0-60 mph in 10 seconds. The top speed of Kia Niro 2017 will be 125 mph. On the side fuel economy, the car vehicle will record EPA ratings of about 43 mpg in the city and 50 mpg on the highway. Due to the inclusion of the electric system, we expect the vehicle to give out lesser emissions compared to most subcompact crossover SUVs.
The carmaker will install both basic and advanced safety security systems in the new car. You can look forward to seatbelts, autonomous emergency braking, airbags, advanced cruise control, blind spot detection, traffic alert, lane change/departure assist and rear cross traffic alert.
Kia Niro 2017 – Reveal, Competition, and Price:
The Kia Niro 2017 will be sold at a favorable price of around $25,000. If there will be trim levels, we expect them to sell at slightly higher prices. As for the release date, the Niro will hit car showrooms and dealer shops in late 2016 or early 2017.
According to Kia, the Niro will be rivaled by cars such as Toyota Prius and Ford Fusion Hybrid.
